This is a response to Spazman13579's contest on designing your own fictional P1A ALCO RS11. I created the fictional Lebanon and Southern Railroad, based on the former Cornwall-Lebanon Railroad Branch. This stem of track was built in the late 1880's by iron ore magnate Robert H. Coleman, and stretches south of the city of Lebanon toward Lancaster County. Steamers would take ore from the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch counties (hence where the farm and cow logo on my engine come from) of Lancaster and Lebanon and deliver the product to processors where it was shipped to local blast furnaces. Passenger service even operated on this line to Mt. Gretna. The line was used up until Hurricane Agnus of 1972, which washed out much of the line, and Conrail got ownership of the line 1976. Conrail made no efforts to restore the line and it turned into MoW and car storage; RJ Corman even offered a purchase but Conrail denied the claim because they had plans for the line, which never followed through. Modern day junction at Norfolk Southern's "WALL" at 16th Street in Lebanon gives way to the start of this branch. Unfortunately, Norfolk Southern and contractors started ripping out the line in 2001. By late 2008 the track and crossings in Lebanon city limits were completely removed, and from 2006 to 2009, Lebanon Valley Rail Trails successfully converted the existing bed into a bike trail.
